What is protein and why do we need it?
During a Vélo ride your body breaks down muscle tissue, causing small cracks in your muscles. We’ve mentioned before that your body needs protein to rebuild those muscles. But what is protein exactly?
Protein is made up of amino acids which are the building blocks for most of the cells in our body. Some of these amino acids are synthesized by the body and are called non-essential amino acids, while other amino acids that cannot be made by the body are called essential amino acids. We need to obtain these essential amino acids through our diet.
